North Country Trail Bridges, Signage Completed
With funds provided by Shell Appalachia and the American Refining Group (ARG) one new walkway construction and one bridge replacement have been completed on the National Scenic North Country Trail (NCT) in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF). Co-operators have included the Allegheny Outdoor Club, its financial agent – Penn Soil RC & D, the ANF chapter of the NCT and the USDA – Forest Service.
The walkway was built where the NCT crosses Rte. 346 in northern McKean County, near the New York state line, and the bridge replacement was done near Rte. 6, east of Ludlow, PA, at a spot where the trail spans Two Mile Creek for more than 24 feet. Signage, acknowledging the sponsorship of Shell and ARG, was put in place in early Spring.
A recognized national hiking trail, the NCT stretches for nearly 100 miles through the ANF and is maintained by the ANF chapter and other volunteers.
