Join Bee Courageous, the Allegheny Greenhouse senior citizen volunteers & Penn Soil RC&D for a Window Box & Beekeeping Workshop at the Allegheny Valley Veterans Center located at 100 N. Main St. Clarendon, PA on Saturday, May 30. This all-day, hands-on workshop will be from 9 am until 3 pm and offers practical skills in creating vibrant window boxes and maintaining healthy bee colonies, promoting conservation and biodiversity in NW PA. Participants will select flowers and/or herb starter plants, learn to plant them in a wooden window box (upcycled from pallets) and take the window box and plants home at the end of the day.
Lunch will be provided by Bee Courageous at Garden Grub while participants also learn about Bee Courageous, the Allegheny Greenhouse senior citizen volunteers and Penn Soil RC&D and how this workshop serves as a fundraising event to build new greenhouses at the Rouse Estates in Youngsville, PA. The new greenhouses will enable the Allegheny Greenhouse group (who formerly operated out of the greenhouses at the Warren State Hospital for 16 years until they were deemed structurally unsafe) to get back to growing flowers, vegetables and herb plants to sell to the public along with Bee Courageous, to offer educational and community events and festivals while also offering additional daily volunteering opportunities for the Rouse Estates residents to participate in!
The day will conclude with a presentation by the Warren County Beekeepers Association sharing valuable knowledge about beekeeping and the preservation of pollinators essential to our region’s agriculture.
